Calum Smith is senior vice president, Asia Pacific at Airswift. A dynamic and people-focused leader, he manages a business portfolio generating $220 million annually. Drawn to the industry by the potential to work internationally within a rapidly changing environment, he has held senior leadership roles at Airswift in Australasia, North America and Asia Pacific, and made a significant impact in expanding and consolidating the global reach of the staffing provider for the energy, process and infrastructure sectors.

Smith consolidated the merger of two regions, integrating 25-plus entities of more than 200 staff across 16 offices in 10 countries. The reduced oil price has affected Airswift’s traditional markets and Smith played an integral role in adapting strategy to address this — including achieving 40% of new business wins to be outside of Airswift traditional markets. “Like most within our industry, I am incredibly competitive and don’t like to lose!” he explains.

Smith is proud of his record of accomplishment while working across many locations in the world. He explains that he has yet to say “no” and grabbed every opportunity with two hands, volunteering for the roles and the duties others did not want. “I am pleased to say that every step in my career so far has been a valuable opportunity to grow and learn continuously,” Smith says.
