The staffing industry can be quite archaic in the way people go about their jobs, opines Christina Russo, who strives to improve efficiencies to create a better candidate experience and improve The Nelson Family of Companies’ bottom line. Originally in marketing within the travel industry, her first foray into staffing was with a finance and accounting staffing firm, where she drove the company’s social media strategy — back when it was all brand new, she says. Russo saw the potential in the emerging media as a powerful recruiting tool.

She followed that experience with a stint at an outplacement firm, and then joined Nelson as VP of marketing in 2015. Since then, she’s been focusing on using technologies to make recruiting and sales more efficient.

Russo rejects the notion of not fixing what isn’t broken, instead maintaining that technology can be used more effectively to enable the company to reach candidates immediately and remain in contact with them. This ensures they get the resources they need to get their next role and lets them know the company cares.

She credits her competitive athletic background for her tireless drive and team-building skills. A basketball player through college, Russo fosters that spirit in her own children and the youth teams she coaches. She was also named by Staffing Industry Analysts to the 2016 Millennials in Staffing list.
