“Having a job where you help others get a job is nothing short of a blessing,” says Justin Thomason, VP of recruiting at Matrix, an IT staffing firm and managed services provider that was acquired by Motion Recruitment in December 2021.

Thomason entered staffing 17 years ago as an IT recruiter on the advice of a close friend and mentor who was a partner at a staffing firm. Since then, he has been on a mission to lead by example.

After nearly 12 years with Matrix, Thomason leads over 75 recruiters across 13 offices. He is particularly proud of pivoting the organization’s recruiting-as-a-service practice strategy, capitalizing on the demand for recruiting talent to provide a path for staffing agency recruiters to enter the corporate recruiting world.

Thomason embedded these recruiters into the talent acquisition organizations for the company’s largest customers and realized 400% revenue growth last year. He also helped equip the customers with offshore sourcing and access to the advanced sourcing technologies provided to Matrix recruiters. “Moving staffing recruiters from the agency side and incorporating them into corporate recruiting roles has been extremely rewarding, as it has helped our customers recognize their true potential while also creating new career experiences,” he says.

A problem solver with an innate passion for doing the right thing, Thomason predicts the industry will become more automated and unconventional in the coming years. “With an ever-evolving future, staffing companies that help customers implement new measures to attract, recruit and retain talent will thrive,” he says.
