Nichole G. Vaux spent two years at Cross Country Healthcare as a graphic designer but always had her eyes pointed toward the top of the ladder. Leaving staffing for marketing and graphic design roles at other healthcare organizations, she returned to the nation’s seventh-largest healthcare staffing provider in March 2020 as VP of marketing, leading a rapidly growing team mirroring the organization’s own explosive growth. In this role, Vaux has created and scaled a leading digital recruitment marketing program, launched a new website that doubled Cross Country’s conversion rates, leveraged social media platforms to astronomically increase lead generation, and much more.

She says the company’s response to the pandemic became a source of inspiration. “I was in the office for one day, and then our entire team and company went remote. Being here during that time and seeing how tirelessly the company worked, all the employees, didn’t matter what role it was … was just very fulfilling,” Vaux recalls. “There was something magical about it.”

Vaux cites her young son as her biggest motivator and says she wants to be his example of what hard work and goal setting look like. “People are always fascinated. ‘You were a graphic designer, and now you’re VP of marketing — how did that even happen?’ I wanted it,” she says. She adds she will never shy away from speaking her goals into existence, and in the next five years, she has her sights set on becoming a CMO.
