AJ Brustein is chief operating officer and co-founder at Wonolo, a human-cloud platform firm that specializes in just-in-time staffing of onsite workers. The company name stands for “Work. Now. Locally.” Once onboarded, workers can accept jobs in any available market.

Brustein helped form the San Francisco-based firm in 2013, as a project out of The Coca-Cola Co. Since then, the company has been spun off and is growing. In April, Wonolo announced a $13 million series B funding round, and last year the company received an investment from Japan-based Persol, one of the world’s largest staffing firms.

However, Brustein points to his team when he speaks of his accomplishments.

“One of the things that I’m most proud of in the last year is that we’ve made some really great hires, including leadership team hires,” Brustein says, “and I have been able to make that shift from being involved in every executional thing in the company to having leaders that can own different functions.”

Hobbies outside of work include photography, and Brustein plays soccer every week. In addition, Wonolo has an internal fitness competition in which team members earn points for every 20 minutes of sweat-producing exercise performed each day.
