Growing up with both parents working together in their family staffing business ignited Billy Doherty’s passion for the staffing and recruiting industry. While attending the University of Minnesota Law School, he focused on employment, business and corporate law, preparing himself for a significant role at Doherty Staffing Solutions. Now, over a decade later, he is president of Doherty, where he has been integral to the continuing growth and success of the company and the acquisition and growth of Dahl Consulting, where he serves as executive VP. His emphasis on creating a culture of inclusivity, engagement and innovation has also led to the firm’s designation as a Top MN Workplace for the eighth year in a row as well as 2021 and 2022 Top Workplaces USA awards for employers with 150 to 499 employees.
“What our employees are saying about the culture, opportunities, leadership and direction that we are providing are some of the things that I’m most proud of,” he says. “That’s incredibly important because it’s a testament to what we have worked to build, and to have our employees affirm those efforts reinforces our goals of continuous improvement in these areas.”
Doherty adds that carrying on the family business and legacy is one of the main things that motivates him. “A primary enjoyment that I get out of my job is the ability to work closely with my mother, father and brother,” he explains. Moving forward, Doherty will continue to pursue the company’s mission of positively impacting people through employment.
