For Jeff Files, his job boils down to helping patients. By working quickly to find and place doctors, he is helping patients get seen.

His own personal health scare influences his perspective. This June marked 10 years that he has been cancer free. The experience “humbled me, made me more compassionate, and made me want to make a difference in everything I do!” he wrote in a LinkedIn blog post.

Files has worked in locum tenens staffing since graduating from college, aside from a short stint at travel nursing firm Fastaff, where he helped raise the firm’s revenue to $225 million from $75 million in less than two years.

Today, he’s executive VP at Englewood, Colorado-based Integrity Locums.

He likes the fast-paced nature of locum tenens, he says, as well as the ability to “fill the need for a client or provide an opportunity to a provider who may have not had that.”

This isn’t his first year on the 40 Under 40 in Staffing list; he was on last year’s list as well. Since then, he and his company have been focused on beefing up the benefits and overall work-life balance for their consultants. For example, the company now allows consultants to work from home as an incentive, a move that increased engagement and productivity.
