Nicole Berg never planned to go into staffing, but when a marketing role brought her to a staffing firm, she knew it was where she was meant to be. Today, Berg serves as the director of marketplace operations and provider experience at Field Nation, a platform connecting businesses with skilled independent contractors.

Berg joined the industry in 2012, but her journey at Field Nation began in 2017. Since then, she has led a team that has fulfilled over 5 million work orders for thousands of customers. Her proudest accomplishment was being Field Nation’s first hire focused on the provider experience, which she built from the ground up. As Berg explains, there are two sides to a contingent workforce — the client and the workers — and she is passionate about ensuring workers have the support to succeed. “If people don’t feel that they’re valued, that their work is valued, and that they’re seen, that has a negative impact,” she says.

When asked where she’ll be in five years, Berg states, “I don’t think this workforce is going to be the same in five years, because it’s definitely not the same as it was last year.” The industry, like her career path thus far, is evolving and unpredictable. The only constant, Berg says, is her desire to have a meaningful impact on it.
