In 2022, Adrienne Nakamura founded Supplemental Health Care’s enterprise project management office, the company’s first PMO, establishing standardized best practices and infrastructure. Today, she serves as its vice president.

Drawing on years of past experience, Nakamura transformed SHC’s approach to prioritization and resource management in just one year by using data to drive decision making. She also played a key role in the transformation of its IT and operations departments. Through her efforts, the company’s revenue grew by 150% year over year.

In addition to her work in project management, Nakamura co-sponsors SHC’s B-Impact initiatives, focusing on improvements to the company’s environmental, social, employee and governance outcomes.

Nakamura’s passion reaches beyond project management and process improvements. She is motivated by the people she works with and serves. She is also inspired by her own family’s heritage — her grandparents had their multiple businesses taken away when were interned in the US during World War II and were not able to pass on that legacy to their children. As a result, Nakamura is driven to bring opportunities to all populations. “I can directly see the impact on people when no one is there to speak for them,” she says.

In 2023, Nakamura became SHC’s first-ever VP of diversity. She developed the company’s diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging mission and charter, co-led the first Asian-American & Pacific Islander Employee Resource Group and helped build additional ERGs. She looks forward to the opportunities in her new role as she strives to ensure diversity is part of SHC’s DNA across all departments.
