If it wasn’t for a seemingly innocuous conversation, Phillip Perkins might have never gotten into the staffing industry.
“I almost took a shot at an email security sales job but instead met someone who opened my eyes to the idea of the staffing industry,” says Perkins on joining Motion Recruitment in 2009 as an entry-level recruiter. “At that moment, I knew it was meant to be.”
Since then, Perkins has continued to build off his professional successes, becoming a VP at Motion Recruitment in 2020; currently, he oversees 16 recruiting teams and 100 recruiters. His dedication to fostering growth goes beyond the financial, instilling a culture of encouragement that has led to Perkins facilitating more than 60 internal promotions within the company.
Reflecting his ability to achieve success even through uncertain times in the staffing industry, Perkins established two new teams in Atlanta and Washington DC this year. “Regardless of economic downturns, if you do the job the right way, exceptional results can be achieved against all odds,” he says. Proof of this is in the 20% revenue growth in the Boston, Atlanta and Washington DC markets Perkins led last year.
As he looks toward the future, Perkins expects further growth as demand for highly skilled tech professionals will skyrocket.
Fueled by deep empathy, Perkins believes true success stems from a collective vision shared by a motivated team. “If you don’t believe in what you’re building, it’s challenging to motivate yourself on a daily basis. It is all about dreaming and achieving together.”
