Katie Evans aims to be an advocate for the flexible talent model, allowing companies to access needed skills online when they need them. And as senior director, content strategy, at online staffing provider Upwork Inc., she is in a position to do so. Upwork ranks as the largest B2B-focused human cloud platform.
“There’s a lot of opportunity but there’s also a learning curve to overcome,” Evans says. “I’ve really been centered on driving awareness and advocacy on how companies can embrace flexible talent models.”
To that end, Evans helped launch Upwork’s annual Work Without Limits Summit about four years ago, where early Upwork adopters from Fortune 1000 companies share learning and best practices. That was a tipping point for many firms when they realized others were out there doing the same thing, she says. Evans also started the Future Workforce Report aimed at understanding how companies are embracing remote work trends.
Evans joined Upwork in August 2015 to help lead the launch and communication plan for the Upwork Enterprise solution. However, her staffing industry experience began in 2010 at Robert Half International Inc. She had worked at other companies before then, including for Sony Playstation, but saw staffing as a way to have impactful work.
“I really felt at the time and with everything going on, it just seemed like an amazing opportunity to do meaningful work,” Evans says.
